You are really in for a treat with some upcoming media we have in store. We are in the middle of pre-production on a really funny Thanksgiving piece. We have some very talented actors and actresses like Ryan Wickerham, Mona Lee and Jason Konopisos. Not to give too much away, but our main character, Stuart, is a Thanksgiving fanatic and can’t wait to show off his Turkey day collection. Of course, his family is there too, which causes some comical interactions on camera.
Another one we’re working on is a New Year’s commercial that will set up pastors perfectly for a message on seeking God’s best for you, as the new year dawns. A really great, dramatic piece that is sure to resonate with everyone. It’s a short one too (less than a minute), so hopefully it can fit in to most new year’s services.
There are a couple more, but I’ll leave you with a preview of one of our Christmas videos. Untitled at this time, this video is more for a time of reflection about what Christ did for us, starting with His birth. It’s set to an Amy Grant song called “Breath of Heaven” and is sung by artist Gretchen Harris. We think this is going to be a really powerful piece at Christmas time. I only put in the first 60 seconds of the video, so you’ll have to stay tuned to get the rest. Final version should be posted within 2 weeks.

So I was wondering how do you credit your actors in these videos? I never see rolling credits on any videos for churches, so what is the proper etiquette or protocol for that? And how about the music (same question?) And how do you get permissions on some of these things? Just curious, and I hope that I didn’t ask to much.
Peace,
TC

Hey Travis, we typically don’t give a credit role on these type of short films because of the nature for which they are being used. If you’re trying to make a point for your sermon with a video, it might be strange to see some credits at the end. The same is true for the music. Sometimes when we have looked into obtaining music, they want us to give them a line in our video description that says who the song is by.
On gaining permission, that happens in many different ways. But the most common is a royalty free way, when you pay for a song and then in it’s usage terms, allows you to reuse that song in a media piece for profit. Sometimes you have to pay fees based on where it’s being sold, how many copies are sold and what format it’s being distributed in. For the actors, you simply need a release form from them stating what they’re acting in and who it’s for. When you get into more union type actors it’s much more complicated, but we haven’t gone down that road yet. Hope that’s not too much feedback!

Great feedback, just wanted to see if there was any differance than shooting a short film. I figured you wouldn’t show credits, since I have never seen that before and it is weird to see during a sermon.
Thanks
